RICHARD MITRY
Sydney Lawyer Rick Mitry returned recently from a trip to the United Arab Emirates and Lebanon where he met with senior business and political figures. He discussed a number of significant issues with them regarding Lebanon and relating to the Lebanese emigrant community in Australia. He gleaned a fascinating insight into the principles which motivate their decisions, as well as their take on current events A highlight of his meetings in Lebanon was one with His Excellency, Dr Tarek Mitri (photo above), the Minister for Information and Culture, in which was discussed a number of significant issues regarding Lebanon and relating to the Lebanese emigrant community and media in Australia.

FOUR men with alleged links to Comanchero bikies faced court yesterday accused of running a multi-million dollar drug lab.
The men were arrested during dramatic raids by detectives with Strike Force Caramana and the Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad on properties in St Marys and Rockdale on Thursday.
Ahmad Nazzal, 27, of Banksia, Hakan Arif, 32, of Sans Souci, Hussein Kalaleddine, 20, of Rockdale, and Kagan Keskin, 25, of Erskine Park, faced Parramatta Bail Court charged with knowingly taking part in the manufacture of a commercial quantity of prohibited drugs.
The court heard police allegedly seized 10kg of the drug ice inside the St Marys unit, as well as firearms, ammunition and 4kg of pseudoephedrine - commonly used in the manufacture of illegal drugs. Police allege the drugs have a street value of $5 million.
The court heard police allegedly discovered firearms, a hunting rifle, eight mobile phones, three drums of ethanol, a money counter and about $80,000 cash during the raid on the Rockdale property.
Only Nazzal, whom police alleged in court was the "financier of the enterprise", applied for bail.
A police statement tendered to the court said Nazzal had directed at least one of the co-accused via SMS to pay another man $35,000, which police claim was used to pay for drugs.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Tyler Stott strongly opposed bail, telling the court "The physical and electronic evidence has established the accused as the financier of the enterprise".
But Nazzal's barrister George Thomas argued there was "no real evidence" to keep his client behind bars. He told the court the alleged mobile phone communication was not relevant as the phone did not belong to his client, despite it being in his possession when he was arrested.
Nazzal was conditionally released and will appear in Central Local Court next week. The three other accused did not seek bail and will face court again next Thursday. Kamalaeddine’s lawyer Richard (Rick) Mitry said the question of application for Bail by his client would be revisited when more details are at hand.
